Day 12: Edinburgh Scotland to London, England
Day 12 7/7/17
We all got up early, had breakfast, and made it to the bus at 5:00 a.m. to go to the airport. We had no problems going through security and got on the plane to fly to London.
The flight was delayed a touch, bu we got our stuff and had to wait for our tour bus. Once it arrived, we loaded it and went to our hotel, the Hotel St. Giles. It was much bigger then the hotel we were in at Edinburgh.
We put the luggage in the luggage room and then got onto the Feltham railroad to go into London via the Waterloo tube stop.
The weather was much warmer, most of us were in shorts and short sleeve shirts and we were warm.
We started at the Tower of London and Anne Marie gave us a brief walking tour of the site.
We started walking west and saw some great sites of the Tower Bridge, as well as the Tower of London.
We arrived at St. Paul's cathedral and took an hour off for lunch. As we were looking at places to eat, we saw one of the plazas near the church had a giant television and people watching the Wimbledon tournament during their lunch hour. There was a couple of ping pong tables set up, so a couple of us hit the ball.
We continued on our walk, crossing the Millennium Bridge and spying Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and exhibition.
We trekked on during the hot sun and saw art areas and a place to skateboard under an overpass. The area was decorated with graffiti that seemed to enhance the area.
Anne Marie took us on a bus and we traveled to Trafalgar Square. The square was being set up to host the London gay pride event that would be tomorrow. People in our group rested and went to the restroom and got drinks.
We traveled up to Leicester Square and Covent Gardens and spent about a half hour at each spot to look around and buy things.
We took the tube to our restaurant close to Gloucester Road called Garfunkel. It was advertised as the best fish and chips in England. It was okay.
There was a grocery store across the restaurant and so we bought items to take home. We started back to our hotel, arriving around 9:00 p.m.
Everyone was tired after a long day of being awake, walking, and seeing the sites of London. It was easy to get some rest after our long long day.
